   Vernon ISD Business Office 
The Business Services Department provides a wide range of support services for the school districts. The Department collects, processes and disseminates all fiscal, budgetary, budget development and monitoring; accounts receivable and payable; purchasing; information systems; maintenance and operations; and building acquisition, use and maintenance and related statistical information and reports for all school districts within Vernon ISD.

Vernon ISD operates on a fiscal year beginning September 1 and ending August 31. The district has a long-standing commitment to careful management of taxpayer money to make every dollar count.
 
Vernon ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)
The Vernon ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) met on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the VISD Board Room for orientation and discussion. The purpose of the SHAC is stated in Senate Bill 19 of the 77th Texas Legislature and Senate Bill 1357 enacted in the 78th Legislature.
The role of the SHAC is to submit recommendations to the local school board on issues such as:
1. health education curriculum or instruction
2. recommendations for
  · length of time for instruction in health education
  · grade appropriate health education curriculum to prevent obesity, cardiovascular disease and Type II diabetes, and
3. appropriate grade levels and methods of instruction for human sexuality instruction.
The members of the SHAC are appointed by the school board and include representatives from the following groups: public school teachers, administrators, district students, health care professionals, the business community, law enforcement, senior citizens, the clergy and nonprofit health organizations.
