Parent Handbook
The Vernon Independent School District offers a broad range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities for students. The district has a current enrollment of 2200 students and is classified as a 3A school by the University Scholastic League.

The district has three elementary schools with McCord elementary serving students in grades PK – 1, Central Elementary serving students in grades 2 – 3, and Shive Elementary serving students in grades 4 – 5. The district has two campuses at the secondary level, the Middle School (built in 1998), serves grades 6 – 8 and Vernon High School serves students in grades 9 – 12.

In addition to the regular campuses Vernon ISD also provides educational services to students at the North Texas State Hospital. The Administration facilities are located at:

District Goals 2013-14
1. The Vernon Independent School District’s budget will be equitable, efficient and will reflect the district’s priorities.

2. Vernon ISD will develop strategies and practices that promote high expectations and engagement for all students.

3. Vernon ISD will maintain a culture of collaboration to develop a team approach that promotes high expectations for all staff and focuses on excitement for learning, pride in individual and district accomplishments and results in positive staff morale.

4. Vernon ISD will provide professional development to all staff members through a collaborative team approach. The focus will be on differentiation, interventions and engaging instruction that will enable the students to flourish.

5. Vernon ISD will promote the development of character traits in all students and provide a safe, orderly and respective environment for all students. Positive behavior of student’s will be emphasized and discipline procedures will be consistent on the campuses.

6. The district will increase communication with all district stakeholders to promote community support and involvement in our schools.

7. Vernon ISD recognizes parents and community are important for our student’s success and will endeavor to provide opportunities for all to be active partners with the district through an established plan emphasizing the importance of parent involvement.
Mission Statement
Vernon Independent School District is committed to the development of a school system in which all students can learn in a safe and orderly climate and one which all stakeholders can be proud of. We will be an exemplary education community respecting and valuing students, parents, community members, and district employees. Our students will understand that responsibilities accompany the privileges of citizenship and will have the foundation to be successful in their chosen endeavors.
