Sixty-four golfers on 16 teams tackled the golf course at the Hill Crest Country Club last Saturday for the 3rd Annual Vernon ISD Lions Roar Golf Tournament and after the dust cleared from the tiebreaker, the top four places were settled.
Two teams tied for first place, with both shooting a 59, 12-under par on the par 71 course. A scorecard playoff starting on hole No. 8 was used to break the tie and on the second hole of the playoff the tie was broken, with first place going to the team of Ky Wrinkle, Bambi Nava, Darrell Colbert and Kathy McClellan. Taking second place was the team of Bob Diekmann, Bryson Henry, Jeremiah Hastings and Joel Hastings.
Three teams shot a 61 to tie for third place. One team, Rhett Gallagher, Bowie Franks, Dr. Kermit Ward and John Blackburn, was eliminated on the second playoff hole and finished fifth. It took six holes to break the tie between the other two teams and determine the third-place finisher.
Managing to escape with third place was the team of Jon Crowell, Kenny Gilbert, Travis Pierce and Brian Wyatt, while fourth went to the foursome of Garrett Waggoner, Chris Waggoner, John Perez and Tony Hollingsworth.
Sandie Parmer won the Women’s Longest Drive Contest, while Tim Reeves won the Men’s Closest to the Pin Contest.
