Job Shadowing group

Groundhog Day was Monday, but Wednesday was Shadowing Day for 57 Vernon High School seniors, as they visited local businesses and companies to get a taste of what a “day in the life” of someone working in their chosen career might look like. From bakers to welders and teachers to doctors, our students had the opportunity to follow local residents and see what happens during a regular work day.

Each student spent the morning shadowing their mentor before gathering at the VHS Media Center to discuss if their day met or exceeded their expectations. Most of the students said they saw their mentor have to deal with a few unexpected bumps during the day, and that they had not expected some of the routine parts of the day that they observed. But, very few said those things were enough to make them re-think their career choice.

We would like to thank all of these businesses, companies and individuals for giving our students the opportunity to shadow and to get a first-hand look at what their career choice actually looks like in the workforce.
