Two ensembles and one soloist from the Vernon Roarin’ Lion Band earned the right to advance to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Competition after receiving a Superior Rating on the Class 1 (Advanced Rating) piece of music they performed in the UIL Region 7 Solo and Ensemble Competition held earlier this month.
Along with those eight students, 10 other Roarin’ Lion Band members earned Superior, Excellent, or Good Ratings for their performances on musical selections with a rating of Class 2 or below.
The lone soloist advancing to the State Solo and Ensemble Competition was Rodrigo Olivas, who earned a Superior Rating on his clarinet solo. Olivas was also a member of the clarinet quintet that received a Superior Rating to advance to state. Rounding out the clarinet quintet were Chloe Diekmann, Melina Ramirez, Jesse Mejia, and Inda Jani Reyes-Lopez.
The flute trio of Mariana Ortega, MuLay Paw, and Jennifer Lopez-Ramos received a Superior Rating to qualify for the state competition.
Three soloists also earned Superior Ratings on musical selections with a rating of Class 2 or below. Those soloists included Mejia, clarinet; Flor Ortega, tuba; and Jackson Thomas, Euphonium.
The low brass quartet of Aislyn Williams, Georgia Balderas, Nevaeh Castillo, and Flor Ortega also received a Superior Rating.
Epholo Htoo received an Excellent Rating on his percussion solo, while the trumpet quartet of Reagan Baskerville, Kenzie Bennet, Brynnlee Rozzell, and Cheyenne Walters received a Good Rating.
