Vernon ISD trustees officially hired Dr. Blaise Boswell as the VISD Superintendent during a special meeting held Monday morning in the boardroom of the Vernon ISD Administration Building. The official appointment came following the state-mandated 21-day waiting period after naming Dr. Boswell the lone finalist for the position in February.
“With Blaise leading the way, the board feels like the district will be in very capable hands,” said VISD Board President Emory Byars. “We believe our district has a bright future ahead.”
Dr. Boswell had been serving as the interim superintendent of the district since November when Dr. Kermit Ward retired. For the past three years Dr. Boswell has served as the district’s assistant superintendent. He began his 15-year career in education as a teacher/coach with VISD. He has served as assistant principal at Vernon High School and principal at Vernon Middle School. Dr. Boswell was also the district’s Chief Technology Officer prior to becoming the assistant superintendent.
The Electra native and Electra High School graduate received his bachelor degree from Midwestern State University, earned his master’s degree from Grand Canyon University, his superintendent certification from Lamar University, and his doctorate’s degree from Liberty University.
“I’ve enjoyed all the roles I have had in our district and feel that each one has helped prepare me for this position,” Dr. Boswell said. “I am excited for this opportunity to serve the district in this leadership role. I want to continue and build on the work we’re already doing to make sure Vernon ISD is a district our community can be proud of.”
Trustees also approved canceling May’s general trustee election due to no contested races. Incumbents Chris Lehman and Carrie Hawkins both filed for re-election and will begin another 3-year term in May, as no one filed to run against them.
