The Vernon Middle School cheerleaders spent most of last week in Wichita Falls attending a UCA Cheer Camp being held on the campus of Midwestern State University, and they totally rocked it!! The group brought home 15 awards, including several superior and excellent honors, as well as All-American honors for two members of the squad.
The All-American qualifiers were Trinity Villarreal and Jaymee Robertson. Other members of the squad include Braelyn Derwin, Ashlynn Torres, Keely Lehman, Isla Streit, Lily Hamby, Hser Than, Nillianna Hines, Paisleigh Oglesby, Lexi Halford, Saydi Flynn, and Halle Morris. Torres, Derwin and Villarreal are the captains for the squad, while Morris is the mascot.
The cheerleaders captured 2nd place in both the Camp Routine and Jump-Off competitions, along with earning two Squad Spirit Sticks. They received a Superior Ribbon and the Top Banana Award on Night 2 of the camp, and claimed a Gold Superior Ribbon on Night 3. The Top Banana Award went to the squad that showed unmatched energy, spirit, respect, and work ethic.
Morris also collected several mascot honors. She received three Mascot Spirit Sticks, one Excellent Mascot Walk Ribbon and two Superior Mascot Walk Ribbons, along with being named the Most Improved Mascot and garnering Mooshee The Turtle for best overall Mascot Spirit.
