
Our Lady Lions saw their season come to an end last night in Anson, as they fell to the Comanche Maidens, 72-48, in a Girls Class 3A Bi-District playoff game. The Lady Lions made the playoffs for the first time since 2021, and have 7 of 8 varsity lettermen returning. Vernon finishes the season with a record of 18-16. The lone senior playing her final game on the court for the Lady Lions was Cirstin Ivy.


This morning VHS juniors took part in an ACT Boot Camp to help prepare them to take the ACT. Vernon ISD covered the fee for all juniors to attend the ACT Boot Camp. By attending an ACT Boot Camp, students can raise their ACT scores up to 30 percent, and a higher ACT score can bring more scholarships, which can make it easier for students to attend college.




VHS students have elected their nominees for Valentine King & Queen. The Valentine King & Queen will be crowned at 8:40 p.m., Friday, at the Valentine's Dance. Queen nominees are Karrissa Mejia, Jairy Vazquez, Marli Limon, Jaylie Freeman, McKenzie Belcher, Layla Trinidad, Kaylee Delaune, Rufaro Mubvumba and Ariel Croxton. King nominees are Ja'Qwan Arthur, Zac Centeno, Case Fleming, Cross Durham, T.J. Thomas, Kale Sherrill, Kell Castleberry and Greg Newton.


It's off to the playoffs for our Lady Lions, as they travel to Anson tonight for a Class 3A Bi-District showdown with the Comanche Maidens. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. Vernon is the visiting team. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students, and will be purchased at the door. The last time the Lady Lions reached the playoffs was 2021. GOOD LUCK LADY LIONS!!!


Our Lions will wrap up the regular season tonight at D.O. Fulton Gym as they host the Iowa Park Hawks in a District 7-3A game. Sub-varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., with the Lions set to take the court at 7 p.m. Vernon has already punched its ticket for the playoffs and will go in as the No. 3 seed from the district. Good luck guys!!!


Senior students and parents -- just a quick reminder about university admission requirements. Please check with the university/college you plan to attend to ensure you have the vaccines required for admission.


On Friday, some of our life skills students worked on their skills in the kitchen and helped cook spaghetti for lunch. They did an awesome job and the spaghetti was great!!




Vernon ISD and Child Care Partners are working together to open a new child care facility in Vernon, and a meeting is being held at 6 p.m., Thursday, at the Vernon Elementary School cafeteria to provide information to Vernon residents, and to give an update on the facility. Officials from Vernon ISD and Child Care Partners will be on hand to talk about the facility and answer questions those in attendance may have concerning the new facility.


Vernon ISD will operate on a 2-hour delay schedule Monday, Feb. 12, due to the weather. VISD officials will be out checking road conditions early in the morning to ensure they are safe. Buses will run 2 hours later than normal.


Vernon ISD is keeping an eye on the weather.


Six VHS wrestlers competed in the Class 5A Region 1 Wrestling Tournament this weekend, and Shyne Rodriguez finished 4th in the 215-pound weight class to advance to the State Wrestling Tournament. Jaden Martinez placed 6th in his weight class. Also competing at the regional tournament were Juanita Salazar, Jairy Vazquez, Emily Rodriguez and Kellan Byars. The State Wrestling Tournament will be held next weekend in Houston. Congratulations Shyne and to all of our regional wrestlers.


Our Lions fell to the No. 9-ranked Eagles from Holliday, 50-39, tonight in a District 7-3A game at D.O. Fulton Gym. With the loss, Vernon has a record of 7-4 in district play. Despite there being one game left in the regular season, the Lions now know they will be the No. 3 seed from the district heading into the playoffs. Vernon wraps up the regular season Tuesday night against Iowa Park.

We have some outstanding school counselors throughout Vernon ISD and they were celebrated throughout the week on their campuses as this is School Counselors Appreciation Week. Each campus did something special for their counselor(s), we just happened to be at Vernon Elementary when they were celebrating their counselor, Kelli Coble. Our other amazing counselors include: Ashley Bloom, McCord Elementary; Misti Dickerson, Vernon Middle School; and Sandra Kieschnick and RaeAnn Stevens, Vernon High School. Carol Taylor splits time between VMS and VHS.





Those attending the Lions basketball game tonight against the Holliday Eagles can enjoy a loaded baked potato meal from the concession stand and play Prom Pong at halftime. The junior class is running the concession stand to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom.


Today, Vernon Lions Baseball Head Coach Austin Thompson was a guest at the Vernon Lions Club. Coach Thompson presented the program to the club and talked about the Lions baseball team and their upcoming season. The Lions open their season on Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Plainview against the Wayland Baptist University JV team. A Lions Baseball Alumni game will be held next Saturday, Feb. 17, at Jabe Brazzle Field.

This week, Feb. 5-9, is School Counselors Appreciation Week, and Vernon ISD has some outstanding counselors serving our students at all of our campuses. During halftime of Tuesday night’s boys’ basketball game, 65 VHS students were recognized for earning their college, career, and military readiness (CCMR) point and received a special t-shirt.
