Yesterday VHS teachers Ms. Kayla Bennett and Mrs. Shelby Moore took 10 students to the Mavs Leadership Day event held at the American Airlines Center. They capped off the day by attending the Dallas Mavericks game against the Miami Heat Wednesday night. Approximately 1,300 students from across North and Central Texas attended the leadership day. Guest speakers for the event included: Ben Hunt, Director of Mavs Academy; Gina Miller, Chief Communications Officer; Theo Hodges, Chief Venue Officer; Brittany Boyd, Senior VP Corporate Partnerships; and Gabe Flores, Director of Digital Marketing.
VHS students attending the leadership conference were Ben Armstrong, Kamryn Hall, Daniela Rojas, Jonathan Medina, Brek Payne, Lily Maxwell, Kenzie Dobbs, Emmy Ware, Garrett Munson, and Mariana Ortega.

Our VISD Band Christmas Program will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Wilbarger Auditorium. Our Middle School Bands will open the program and will be followed by our Roarin' Lion Band. There will also be a Dessert Silent Auction in the lobby of the auditorium, which is a fundraiser for the band.

Teen vaping continues to be a major concern across the country. To help fight the vaping battle, Vernon ISD Social Worker Nicole Cameron provides parents with information on vaping they can use when talking with their children, and Vernon Middle School Resource Officer Deputy Ronnie Adams discusses the legal ramifications for students who are caught vaping. https://youtu.be/MvC9CYujph8

Lion Stadium→ Left on Yamparika → Left on Sand → Right on Wilbarger → Follow them out of town to the Wilbarger County Events Center!

This is the time of the year to take a moment to reflect on all we have to be thankful for, and Vernon ISD would like to wish all the members of our VISD family, and our students and their families a Happy Thanksgiving. The district appreciates and is thankful for each and every one of you.

Our Vernon Lions defeated Denver City, 41-16, last Thursday in the Area round of the Class 3A, D1 Football State Playoffs. Earning special recognition for their performance during that game are: Adrain Felton, Defensive MVP; Ty Scott & Donivan Montano, Co-Offensive MVP; Jamari Chance, Ball Hawk; David Albineda, Big Stick; Ty Scott, Most Explosive; Jamerion Willie, Lion Heart; Mu Soe & Kayson Sanders, Co-Special Teams MVP; Brayden Booth, Boss Hog; Kayson Sanders, Top Blocker.

Our Lions have advanced to the Regional round of the Class 3A, D1 Football State Playoffs!! Vernon will be taking on District 4-3A foe Peaster on Friday in Burkburnett. All tickets are $7. The Burk stadium has a clear bag policy, along with a bag size limit.

It's a District 4-3A, D1 rematch for the Vernon Lions, as they will square off against Peaster in the Regional round of the Class 3A, D1 playoffs. The coaches flipped home-and-home, with Vernon picking Burkburnett and Peaster picking Graham. The Lions won the coin flip and we will be the home team next Friday at Bulldog Stadium. Game time will be determined tomorrow. Vernon defeated Denver City, 41-16, Thursday night, while Peaster defeated Shallowater, 16-0, tonight to advance to the third round of the playoffs.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026!! Their Project Celebration Booth received the People's Choice Award for Vendors at this year's Bacon Fest. The seniors sold Munchoes Gourmet Caramel Apples at their booth, and they beat out some very stiff competition!

Here is some information on safe firearm storage. School districts across the State of Texas are now required (House Bill 121) to distribute information regarding safe firearm storage at least three times each school year. We hope everyone follows firearm safety measures and stores their firearm in a secure location.

Vernon ISD will be closed Nov. 24 thru Nov. 30 for our Thanksgiving Break. Classes will resume and offices will reopen Monday, Dec. 1, on their regular schedules. We hope all of our students and their families, along with our VISD family enjoys their Thanksgiving Break.

Mrs. Hasting's Culinary Arts students cooked and served an outstanding Thanksgiving Day meal today to all VHS staff and other VISD personnel. From turkey and ham, to dressing, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce, the meal had it all. Topping the meal off was Pecan Pie or Pumpkin Pie for dessert. Thank you Mrs. Hastings and all her students. The meal was delicious!

Yesterday students in Ms. Bennett's second and third period senior English classes were treated to a special guest speaker. Hunter Britt, a friend of Ms. Bennett who lives in Fort Lauderdale, shared how he began his career in yachting and highlighted the wide range of jobs involved in building a yacht. He also spoke on the importance of stepping outside your comfort zone and chasing a passion. Mr. Britt is the founder of H. Hilton Yacht & Ship.
