Over 200 members of our Vernon ISD family participated in the Santa Rosa Parade held Wednesday afternoon. Our McCord, Elementary School and Middle School all had floats in the parade, while our VHS seniors rode on fire department trucks. Other members of the VISD family rode on floats of various businesses and organizations.











Our new Roarin' Lion Band Director Jeremiah Hastings, his wife Audrey Hastings, and assistant band director Matthew Golden were introduced to the community yesterday at a Meet and Greet held at the VISD Administration Building. Following the Meet and Greet, VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward introduced them to the Roarin' Lion Band.









Don't forget, but before you head to your spot to watch the Santa Rosa Rodeo Parade, stop by in front of the VISD Administration Building and grab a bag of popcorn to munch on while you watch the beautiful floats and horses go by!


Take a moment during the noon hour to stop by the VISD Administration Building and welcome the new leader of the Roarin' Lion Band, Jeremiah Hastings, to town. You can have some punch and a cookie during the come-and-go event.


There's still a few spots open for our Summer Lego Camp for students who are in the sixth thru eighth grade this year. This is a free camp. To sign up, contact Mrs. Perez in the Middle School front office.


The community is invited to a Meet and Greet for incoming head band director Jeremiah Hastings. Stop by the VISD Administration Building on Wednesday, grab some cookies and punch, and meet the new leader of the Vernon Roarin' Lion Band!


Downtown will be hopping Wednesday afternoon for the annual Santa Rosa Rodeo Parade and we're going to be poppin' as well! Swing by and pick up a bag of popcorn to munch on during the parade! We'll be on the sidewalk in front of the VISD Administration Building.

Our 5th grade students took a field trip to tour the campus of the Middle School, which will be their campus next year as 6th graders. Students walked around the outside of the building as well as checked out the cafeteria, library and the layout of the school building.






School will be out in a couple of weeks and with that comes trying to keep the kiddos active and entertained. We have three great summer enrichment camps that will do both of those things and also keep them learning -- and learning in a fun way!! Check out the flyers for more information.




The Roarin' Lion Band Banquet was held Saturday evening and several members of the band were honored. Receiving awards were: Elide Corona & Julian Rodriguez, Outstanding Color Guard Members; Georgia Balderas & Luis Perez, Outstanding Marching Band Members; Flora Ortega, Outstanding 8th Grade Band Member; Edgar Morales, Outstanding 9th Grade Band Member; Marianna Ortega, Outstanding 10th Grade Band Member; Savannah (Sam) Thomas, Outstanding 11th Grade Band Member; and Alex Rivera, Outstanding 12th Grade Band Member. The John Phillip Souza Band Award went to Elida Corona.
Nine band seniors each received a $1,000 scholarship from the Band Boosters. Those seniors were Addison Ballard, Electra Boatman, Elide Corona, Matthew Goodrum, Emily Martinez, Vanessa Morales, Alexandria Orton, Fernanda Perez and Alex Rivera.



Our district continues to be amazing!! With just a one-day notice, our students, teachers and staff donated a total of $906 for Paxton Barclay, a first grade student in Valley ISD who has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Multiple school districts to the west and south of us participated in the Wednesday "Hats On For Paxton" event. Thank you Vernon ISD!!


Vernon ISD is pleased to announce Jeremiah Hastings has accepted the position as head band director of our district band program. Mr. Hastings comes to us after serving as the director of bands at Cooper ISD for 13 years. Please join us in welcoming him to the community. A public come-and-go meet and greet for Mr. Hastings will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, in the boardroom of the Administrative Center.


Yesterday our VISD Grounds and Transportation Department held its annual hamburger cookout and presented their end of the year awards. Kenneth Reynolds was named the Custodian of the Year, while Kenneth Newton received the Maintenance Worker of the Year award. The Bus Driver of the Year award went to Steve Azbell. We greatly appreciate all of our custodians, maintenance workers and bus drivers. Your behind-the-scenes work is invaluable to Vernon ISD. It would be hard for the district to function without all of you!! Thank you for another great year!!





The Vernon Middle School and High School Band Department presented its Annual Spring Concert last night. Here are some photos of our Roarin' Lion Band as it performed.










During last night's Annual Spring Concert, band directors Aaron Burr and Dianne Koch presented the year-end awards for the 6th Grade Band and 7th Grade Band. Receiving 6th Grade Awards were: Kendall Burch, 6th Grade Flute; Aylin Cordova, 6th Grade Clarinet; Brayden MacMillan, 6th Grade French Horn; Kasey Calvillo, 6th Grade Trumpet; Nevaeh Castillo, 6th Grade Trombone; Abel Galvan, 6th Grade Baritone; and Brynlee Disbrow, 6th Grade Percussion.
The three 7th Grade Band Awards went to: Skylar Harbour, 7th Grade Woodwind; Braeden German, 7th Grade Brass; and Sophia Bohannon, 7th Grade Percussion.
