Our VES students had a blast performing the Cuban Shuffle dance routine during halftime of Friday night's Vernon Lions football game. Check out some of these moves and faces. Great job to all who participated and worked to put this together.

Next week is Red Ribbon Week and the theme this year is "Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug-Free." Vernon Elementary has something planned for every day next week as they take part in the national drug awareness campaign.

A new elementary school brings a new tradition, as tomorrow night will be Elementary Night at the Vernon Lions' football game. Elementary School students will get in free to the game and perform a dance routine at halftime. Students participating in the dance routine should wear a maroon or white t-shirt, or a cheerleader uniform. Head out to Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium tomorrow night and show your support to the Lions football team and our elementary students.

Our 4th & 5th grade students attended Ag Day at the Wilbarger County Exhibit Building this morning. The students heard how agriculture provides not only food, but other by-products that we use in our everyday lives and were able to pet some animals hear how the animals play a part in our everyday lives as well. There was also an electricity exhibit that explained how electricity makes to your house and went over electricity safety tips. Ag Day sponsors were Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Wilbarger County, Wilbarger County 4-H, Vernon College, and Wilbarger County Farm Bureau.

VES students in the Gifted & Talented program got a chance to enjoy the schools STEM lab yesterday. The students broke into groups and worked on a building activity.

With the help of Wilbarger County Farm Bureau Board Member Austen White, three VES students get a look at the Ag Day t-shirts being provided by the Farm Bureau. Fourth and fifth grade students will wear their t-shirt at the Annual Ag Day, sponsored by Wilbarger County Texas A&M Extension Service, which is being held tomorrow morning at the Wilbarger County Exhibit Building.

Vernon ISD is always open to feedback from parents and community members, and is conducting a survey to get more of your opinion when it comes to our school district. The primary goal of the survey is to identify the educational priorities of parents. Your responses are anonymous and there are no right or wrong answers. Please select the answer that best describes your response to the survey question. Tuesday evening, Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward hosted KAUZ Newschannel 6 Chief Meteorologist Ken Johnson and the First Alert Weather Crew at the new Vernon Elementary School. You can check out the interviews here https://www.newschannel6now.com/2023/10/11/first-alert-tracker-tour-makes-stop-vernon-isd/
Dr. Ward also gave Ken a Facebook live tour of the new school. You can watch that by following this link https://www.facebook.com/Newschannel6now/videos/982375693066491

This tower was made by 2nd and 3rd graders and is on the stage in the cafeteria of the new Vernon Elementary School. The tower was inspired by the students' study of artist Dale Chihuly, who works with glass. There is an estimated 500 bottles painted with a variety of tempera paints, acrylic paints and permanent markers that make up the tower.

Vernon ISD has started using a new program for parents and teachers to have an extra avenue of communication. This program is called Rooms and is hosted by a company named Thrillshare. Some of our parents have already started accessing Rooms but we have a lot of questions regarding the platform. This is totally expected with anything that is new. We have created a webpage with FAQ's for parents along with some helpful videos. You can find that page here: https://bit.ly/VISDParentRooms
If you have additional questions about Rooms after looking at the webpage, please feel free to email chantilly.sweet@visdtx.org.
