With the area receiving a minimum amount of precipitation today, and with temperatures forecast to stay above freezing overnight, Vernon ISD officials have announced the district will be operating on a regular school day schedule on Monday. Buses will run at their regularly scheduled time.
In August, Vernon ISD started using a new parent-teacher communication app called Rooms. Many of our parents are already signed up and using Rooms with the teachers of their children. For anyone who works in a public school, the Christmas Break is always a welcome time of the year. It is a time when we get to refresh our batteries. For some, it is a time to completely remove themselves from the job, but as a superintendent, I can never fully disengage. Whenever I have tried it, I always develop a sense of low-key anxiety thinking about the lost opportunity to get a little ahead of the job. Vernon Lion athletes brought a little Christmas cheer to a few folks today! The group stopped by McCord, Vernon Elementary, Vista Living of Vernon, and Eagle Flats Village, Students and residents alike enjoyed the visit.
Leading up to our Christmas Break, Vernon ISD campuses will be on their early release schedule for both Thursday and Friday.
Third grade teachers have started a "BOB Club" which stands for "The Best of the Best." Third graders who have shown exemplary leadership skills, followed the rules, and just been an 'overall' great student will be nominated. The first BOB Club luncheon was held in the library with students receiving hamburgers, chips and cookies. This week's BOB Club attendees included Charlee Cokendolpher, Nicholas Moralez, Mariyah West, Karyss Finnegan, Rylee Leija, Olivia Teague, Kayla Calvillo, and Abel Romero.
There will be two movie days at VES to close out this week. Movie day for 4th & 5th graders is Thursday and Friday for 2nd & 3rd graders. The movie will be shown in the VES Gym and snacks will be available for purchase. Prices for snacks will range from 50 cents to $1.
Named as our Students of the Week for the week of Dec. 11 were: 2nd Grade -- Olivia Brothers; 3rd Grade -- Charlee Cokendolpher; 4th Grade -- Karter Gee; and 5th Grade -- Corvyn Martinez. Congratulations!!! Great job!! Your photos will be displayed on our digital sign and on the digital sign at the Admin Building downtown.
