
Monday afternoon several former teachers and other residents stopped by Vernon Elementary to pray in small groups with our staff as we prepare for our first day of school on Wednesday. We appreciate the support and know it is going to be a great year!

We're just days away from the start of the 2025-26 school year. If your child attended VISD last year and is planning to attend again this year, you must still register them for the new year. Please go to www.vernontx.org; scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Skyward Family Access. If you need assistance, you can also go to the school office at the campus your child will be attending.


In accordance with HB 1481, Vernon ISD students will not be allowed to use cell phones or other personal communication devices during the school day. If brought to school, all devices must be turned off and put away. Those who violate this policy will have their device confiscated. The device will be returned to a parent or guardian at the end of the school day.


Remember today is the DAY for the Back to School Bash at the Boys & Girls Club!! The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Club. School supplies will be given away and they'll be fun and games, entertainment and food vendors!! Don't miss it!!


This morning during our 2025 VISD Convocation, teachers who earned Teacher Incentive Allotment recognition for the 2024-25 school year were recognized and received their allotment checks. Teachers cited as "Recognized" received checks ranging from $7,503 to $7,842; "Exemplary" level teachers received checks ranging from $15,006 to $15,685; and our "Masters" teacher received a check for $28,134. Congratulations and great job! We look forward to even MORE of our teachers earning TIA recognition this year. Let others know the great things happening at VISD! This morning Vernon ISD held it's Convocation to welcome back all teachers and staff for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. The morning kicked off with a breakfast hosted by the district in the Empire Room of Wilbarger Auditorium. Following the breakfast, teachers and staff moved into the main auditorium to hear guest speaker Ty Duncan, who was followed by VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward who gave his "State of the District" address. Teachers and staff are attending professional development sessions this week and early next week. The first day of classes for the upcoming school year is Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Reserve seat season tickets go on sale Monday, Aug. 4! This year season tickets are $25 for all 4 home games. From Monday, Aug. 4 to Friday, Aug. 15, sales are limited to Lions fans who purchased season tickets last year. Season ticket sales will open to the general public on Monday, Aug. 18.

Thursday, 50 VISD teachers from all campuses, some new to the district and some returning staff, participated in Capturing Kids Hearts professional development. Capturing Kids' Hearts is a program designed to create positive and effective learning environments in schools by focusing on social-emotional wellbeing, building strong relationships, and fostering a sense of connectedness among students and staff. It aims to transform school culture through relationship-based strategies, ultimately improving student behavior, academic performance, and overall school climate.



Vernon ISD's Meet the Teacher event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 12. The times vary for most campuses to help those parents who have more than one child in school. Here are the times for each campus:
McCord Elementary -- 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Vernon Elementary -- 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Middle School -- 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
High School -- 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Today Vernon ISD welcomed our new teachers who will be joining us for the 2025-26 school year. Due to work being done on the VHS roof, the orientation was held at the Vernon Administration Building.



Vernon ISD in-person registration/enrollment for the 2025-26 school year is being held today in the cafeteria of the Vernon Elementary School. The morning session will continue until 12:30 p.m. The afternoon session will begin at 1:30 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. Please use the South door -- marked A4 -- to enter the building.
