
The warmer weather is a signal it is planting season, and our Vernon FFA will have an amazing selection of plants at their annual FFA Plant Sale scheduled for Saturday, April 26. The students have nurtured over 5,000 plants that will be up for sale. Those plants consist of numerous bedding plants, potted plants, hanging baskets, and vegetables.
The first 50 people in the door will receive a 15% off coupon. A minimum $100 purchase will make you eligible to receive a special blend fertilizer mixture that was created by our Advanced Plant Science class and formulated to protect your investment throughout the growing season.
The FFA Plant Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 26.



This week is National Assistant Principal Week and we have some amazing and outstanding assistant principals on our campuses. We wrap up the week with our Vernon High School assistant principals. First up is Jeremy Reeder.

Sophomore students in Mr. White's AP World History classes have been learning how to eat with chopsticks and they went on a field trip today to test their skills. The students enjoyed chicken fried rice at Vernon Burger. Although some may have struggled, no one left hungry!! A big "Thank you" to Vernon Burger for the great chicken fried rice.





It's a little warm today and what's better on a warm day than something cold to enjoy!
A big THANK YOU to the VMS & VHS PTO for treating our amazing teachers and staff to delicious paletas from Los Amigos Paleteria this afternoon!! There was a variety of tasty flavors to choose from the treats were a huge hit on both campuses.
Also -- a special thank you to Los Amigos for generously allowing the PTO to use their cart to make this treat extra fun and festive. We appreciate your support and partnership!!



The field events have concluded in Graham at the 7-3A/8-3A Area Track & Field Meet and we have some area champs and regional qualifiers!!!
Jamari Chance and Key'Maria McBride are area champions, as they won the Boys Triple Jump and the Girls Triple Jump. Silver medals went to Tevan Evans in the Boys High Jump and Breasha Waggoner in the Girls High Jump.
PIcking up bronze medals were Adarius Williams in the Boys Long Jump, Nadia Gaines in Girls Shot Put, and Klancy Sherrill in Girls High Jump.
All are moving on to compete in the Class 3A Region 1 Track & Field Meet that will be held next Friday and Saturday in Abilene.


Miller's Auction hosted Mr. White's senior Economics class earlier this week. The students toured the auction barn to get a glimpse of items to be included in an upcoming auction. They learned the "how to's" of running an auction and participated in a "live" auction. A big thanks to Royce and Brenda Miller for taking the time to host our students.





SCHEDULE CHANGE!!
Our junior varsity baseball team will now play Windthorst here at Jabe Brazzle Field at 4 p.m., Monday. This is a JV only game day.


The talent of some of our students was on full display yesterday for the VHS Art Show! The art show was presented by our Art 3 and Art 4 students.








We have 17 Lady Lion and Lion athletes representing Vernon in 10 events at the 7-3A/8-3A Area Track & Field Meet being held tomorrow in Graham. Those finishing in the top 4 of their events in last week's District Meet qualified for the Area Meet. The top 4 finishers in each event from the Area Meet advance to the Region 1 Track & Field Meet being held next week at Abilene Christian University.


It was Senior Recognition Night for members of the Lady Lions softball and track teams Tuesday night at Ronda Havins Softball Field prior to Vernon's game against Holliday. Players and their family escort were announced as they walked onto the field.
Softball seniors are Katie Dodd, Laurel Easley and McKyla Myers.
Track seniors are Zayleigh Sweet, who is also a softball manager, Kaitlyn Beam, Mijah Johnson, Maree Johnson, and Key'Maria McBride.











After postponing the Vernon-Holliday game due to field conditions yesterday, we're good to go today at Jabe Brazzle Field. The Lions will take on the Eagles in a District 7-3A contest, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. The JV game will follow at approximately 7 p.m.

Vernon's game against Holliday that was scheduled for today has been postponed until tomorrow. On Wednesday, the varsity will play first at 4 p.m., with the JV game to follow. Good luck Lions!!!

The VHS Art Show will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., tomorrow, in the VHS Art Room. Students in our Art 3 & Art 4 classes will be exhibiting their artwork. We have some wonderfully talented artists roaming our hallways. Stop by tomorrow and check it out yourself.


Sixteen students were inducted into the VHS National Honor Society during a ceremony held Monday evening in the VHS Cafeteria. Five juniors and 11 sophomores took the NHS pledge and received their certificates. The home finale for our Lady Lions softball team is scheduled for today when we host the Holliday Lady Eagles at Ronda Havins Softball Field. This is also Senior Recognition Night, with those activities getting underway at 4:45 p.m., leading up to the 5 p.m. start of the game. Good luck Lady Lions!!


Our Lions will square off against the Eagles from Holliday today in a District 7-3A baseball battle at Jabe Brazzle Field. The JV game will begin at 4 p.m., with the first pitch for the varsity game set for 7 p.m. Good luck Lions!!!


Wednesday, April 30, our VISD All-Star athletes will get their chance to shine at our Vernon All-Star Olympics!! This is a warm-up for our athletes, who will go on to compete at Altus in an Area All-Star Olympics event in May. Donations are currently being accepted to help make our Vernon All-Star Olympics extra-special!! Come on out to Lions Stadium on April 30 and cheer on our All-Star athletes!


This afternoon our National Honor Society students went over to Vernon Elementary to spend time with the 2nd grade students in the Gifted & Talented Program. The high school students helped the elementary youngsters build an electronic bug that included motors, switches, wires, and even 'antennas'. The bugs then scooted around the hallway.











KAUZ-TV, Channel 6, will be in town today broadcasting their weather report live from Vernon High School for both their 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., newscasts. Their special guest will be VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward.
