Also, a sendoff for the cheerleaders will be held at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, in front of VHS. Once they leave the sendoff, the cheerleaders will be escorted down Wilbarger by our Vernon Police and Fire Departments. The cheerleaders will compete Thursday at the State Competition.

The VHS chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is partnering with the Wilbarger Humane Society to host an adoption drive on Saturday, Feb. 7, in the United Supermarket parking lot. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are many animals in need of a loving home that are ready to meet their furever family!!
Can't adopt right now? You can still help by offering supplies or monetary donations. Stop by and grab a wishlist of items they need or scan a QR code at the event to make a direct donation. Are you interested in volunteering at the shelter? The Wilbarger Humane Society is always in need of regular volunteers and information on volunteering will also be available at our adoption drive event.

Two or three times during the months of January through April, Mrs. RaeAnn Stevens will be offering TSIA testing. Sophomores MUST pass the ELAR TSIA test to take dual credit English and U.S. History next year. VISD pays for a VISD student's first TSIA exam in both ELAR and Math if the test is taken on campus. VHS senior Zach Sanchez will be competing at the Class 3A Congressional Debate Meet today in Austin. This is his 3rd year to advance to the state meet. Logan Wehrein and A.J. Ragland were named alternates to state at the Region 1 meet and are also in Austin.

Calling former Vernon Lions baseball players!! The annual Alumni Baseball Game is set for Saturday, Feb. 14, at Jabe Brazzle Field. Those interested in playing will need to contact Lions Head Coach Leo Murguia by email at leonel.murguia@visdtx.org

This morning, the Vernon Police Department and Vernon ISD welcomed Autumn Thames to their staffs. Autumn will hold the rank of lieutenant with the Vernon PD and will serve as VISD's Director of School Safety and Security, as well as be the School Resource Officer at McCord Elementary. Interim Supt. Dr. Blaise Boswell explained this is a newly-established position and reflects VISD's and Vernon PD's collaborative commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
