
The Roarin' Lion Band closed out the VISD Band Program Spring Concert last night at the Wilbarger Auditorium. Here are a few scenes from their performance.








Watching classmates and teachers compete in the VHS Volleyball Tournament kept students entertained last Friday. There were 12 teams in the tournament. The senior class had the best attendance for the last six weeks and as a reward, they received free admission to the tournament and free food and drink from the concession stand. The Gold Diggers (including Klancy Sherrill, Ty Scott, Jamari Chance, Tru Gipson, and Jeana Martinez) defeated the Set To Retire team (including Key'Maria McBride, Mijah Johnson, Mari Johnson, and Ethan Evans), 25-20 in the championship match to take the title.

Last week, students in Ms. Hamer's college readiness classes toured Vernon College. Vernon College administrators welcomed them to the campus before the students were put into smaller groups for the tour. Vernon College also provided lunch for the students.

VHS announced the Top 13 ranking students for the Class of 2025 today. The students were taken from their classrooms, given class jerseys and then loaded onto a school bus. The bus made stops at Vernon Elementary and Vernon Middle School before being escorted down Wilbarger and Hillcrest to the Hillcrest Country Club. There parents were there waiting for a luncheon honoring the students for their accomplishment. The Top 13 ranking students for the Class of 2025 are: Kellan Byars, valedictorian; Nick Guzman, salutatorian; Laurel Easley, third-ranking student; Jasana Goodrum, Yuleyka Ramirez, Adarius Williams, Javier Lopez, Sam Thomas, Addie Souce, Atticus Mixson, McKyla Myers, Harley Fulford, and Courtney Saylor.

Our Roarin' Lion Band's Spring Concert is set for 6:30 p.m., tonight, at the Wilbarger Auditorium. This year, the Roarin' Lion Band received a Division II at marching contest in the fall, and then received a Division I in concert and Division II in sightreading at the UIL Concert & Sightreading competition held in April. They've had an amazing year!! Make plans to come out and enjoy the concert.
The program will also include our VMS beginners and intermediate bands performing several songs.


For VISD students who plan on participating in athletics for the 2025-26 school year -- If you are going to be in the 7th, 9th, or 11th grade, or suffered a major injury last year, you must take a sports physical before you will be allowed to participate in any practice or drills when the new school year gets underway. Wilbarger General Hospital and the WGH Medical Group are offering free physicals tonight! Coaches handed out paperwork a couple of weeks ago.


The Lions Baseball Camp is set for June 16-18 at Jabe Brazzle Field. The camp is open to all incoming 3rd thru 9th graders. The focus of the camp will be the fundamentals of the game, and improving skills in hitting, throwing, and fielding, and -- FUN!! Instructors will be members of the VHS baseball staff, along with current and former players.

On Friday, VHS held its attendance award drawing for the last six weeks of the year. This six-weeks prize was an ipad and the winners were: Ryne Sanders, senior; Ben Armstrong, junior; Kaleb Bucher, sophomore; and Matthew Pena, freshman. Congratulations!!





Earlier this month, Vernon ISD sent out letters to parents of students who the district was recommending to attend our Summer School Accelerated Instruction for Reading Language Arts and Math. Summer School enrollment is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Vernon Middle School. Our Jonathan Medina and Nevan Schur reached the 3A Boys Doubles championship match in the UIL Singles & Doubles State Tournament, but were unable to capture that gold medal. They won the first set in the finals, 6-4, but then dropped the next two sets, 1-6, 2-6. It's back-to-back silver medals for VHS duo!! Congratulations on a great season!!


In the 3A Mixed Doubles semifinals, Courtney Saylor & Will Castleberry fell 6-4, 6-3, to capture the bronze medal at the UIL State Singles & Doubles Tennis Tournament in San Antonio. Congratulations!!
