Vernon ISD had the privilege of hosting the Vernon Leadership Class yesterday morning as part of their "Education Day." Class members heard from employees who work behind the scenes in the business office and other positions that people don't associate with a school district. The class traveled by school bus to Vernon Elementary School and toured the campus before heading to Vernon High School to take a look at the CTE facilities. Students in the VHS culinary program cooked lunch for the class. We hope the class enjoyed their time with us and learned a little something about school districts and Vernon ISD that they didn't know before.

Earlier this week our Director of Safety & Security, Lt. Autumn Thames, along with our VMS SRO Deputy Ronnie Adams, and Vernon PD Chief Dan Birbeck presented the program "Words Matter: School Safety Starts With What We Say" to our students. The goal of this program is to help prevent threats to our schools by educating students about the seriousness of the words they use and the potential consequences of making threatening statements.
Students are being reminded that even joking about a threat is not a joke. Statements involving violence or threats against a school, student, teacher, or staff member must be taken seriously and can result in significant school discipline and serious legal consequences.
Through “Words Matter,” we want students to understand their words have an impact.
Words matter. Choices matter. School safety matters.

It was standing room only this morning in the VES cafeteria as students were joined by their grandparents/grandfriends for breakfast. The crowd was so big our staff had to set up extra tables in the hall. And, that made our smiles and those of our students even bigger! Having this turning shows our students' families are interested and invested in their education. A thank you to all who joined us this morning. It was a great way to start the day!!
