
We will be sending our state finalist film crew off in style in the morning with a sendoff that begins at 9:20 a.m. in front of VHS. The members of the film crew -- Garrett Munson, Rodrigo Olivas, Kenneth Cordero and Ezekiel Amador, along with their sponsor Dustin Swatzell -- will then be escorted down Wilbarger as they leave for Austin. Help us give them a great sendoff and line Wilbarger. They make their way down Wilbarger at approximately 9:30 a.m. Their film "Vietnam" advanced to the finals in the Traditional Animation category.


Time is running out to nominate your favorite Vernon ISD teacher in the Red River Best Chevy Dealers Teacher Appreciation Contest. Students, parents, residents and teachers can go online and nominate their choice for Outstanding Teacher!! The deadline is this Friday, Feb. 28.


All VISD students and staff can be extra comfortable Thursday as it is "Pajama For A Purpose Day!" Students and staff at all campuses who want to wear their pajama pants (appropriate for school) Thursday may do for a $3 donation. The fundraiser is for a VMS student who lost all of their belongs in a recent house fire.


Vernon ISD's fourth six weeks grading period concluded last Friday, Feb. 21. We will be mailing VHS student report cards for the fourth six weeks, and included with the report card will be the student's interim report. Parents should receive their student's report card in the mail next week.


The Our Blood Institute's current blood supply is extremely low. A community blood drive is scheduled for tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the First Methodist Church. Our Blood Institute supplies blood to all of the area hospitals, including Wilbarger General. If you have a few minutes tomorrow, stop by and give the gift that costs you nothing, but can save up to 3 lives.


The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat are both on display in this pic, as 2024 VHS Chili Cookoff champion Allison Stanley hands off the traveling trophy to 2025 winner Phillip Dowling. The 2025 VHS Chili Cookoff was held Friday, with staff enjoying all the chili entries and casting a vote for their favorite.


Our Roarin' Lion Band Winter Guard competed in a NTCA competition on Saturday at Summit High School and captured 2nd place in the Novice Division. Congratulations to our Winter Guard. We're proud of you!!


Hopefully this week Vernon ISD will have more of a regular, normal week. However, there are no classes tomorrow for a teacher workday, and Friday is one of the district's early release Fridays. We hope everyone is enjoying this nice weather! Definitely better than last week's frigid temperatures.

Four of our Lady Lions made the District 7-3A All-District Basketball Team, while two others received honorable mention honors. Ten of our Lady Lions made the Academic All-District team.
For the second year in a row, senior Key'Maria McBride was named the District 7-3A Defensive Player of the Year, while seniors Mari Johnson and Mijah Johnson made the All-District First Team for the second year in a row. Senior Zayleigh Sweet was named to the All-District Second Team. Earning Honorable Mention honors were sophomores Lily Maxwell and Lily Beam.
Working hard in the classroom and making the Academic All-District team were Mari Johnson, Mijah Johnson, Key'Maria McBride, Zayleigh Sweet, Daniella Eneanya, Lily Beam, Erianna Chavez, Lily Maxwell, Breasha Waggoner, and manager Alyssa Andara.
The 7-3A all-district team was released after all district teams were eliminated from the playoffs. City View was the last team to have its season come to an end, as the Lady Mustangs fell to Idalou Friday night in the Class 3A, DII Region 1 championship game.

This morning four of our students who just also happen to be Camp Fire girls, Isabella Meurs, Grace Jansa, Camilla Parmer and Lillianna Gonzales, were guests on KVWC's Friday morning show "This, That & The Other" with host Kathy McClellan. The girls announced Camp Fire's annual Candy Sale will begin late next week or the first week of March, and talked about the fun they have and what they enjoy about being in Camp Fire.

It's been a crazy week with no classes on Monday, early dismissal Tuesday due to weather and no school Wednesday because of the weather. So, don't forget tomorrow is one of VISD's regularly-scheduled early release Fridays. We hope everyone has a nice weekend with the warmer weather coming our way.


After receiving an email from VMS student Aalyiah Hampton concerning a school policy, Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward stopped by the school earlier this week to hear Aalyiah, and her sister, Amyiah, present their idea in person.


Friday's Lions baseball game at Gainesville has been moved to Monday, at 5 p.m. Vernon was scheduled to face Electra on Monday, however Electra cancelled that game.
Also, the Lions are traveling to Pampa on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Harvesters. Tickets for the game must be purchased online at https://gofan.co/event/3269441?schoolId=TX12159


Earlier this week, 6th grade students in our Gifted & Talented Program completed a project that involved the groups creating a company for Vernon. The project included using digital design to create a logo, print and video ads, and a business card. Each group then gave a presentation on their business.





Vernon ISD will be operating on a regular schedule on Thursday. Buses will run at their regular times and classes will start at their regular times. We encourage everyone to bundle up because it is still going to be extremely cold tomorrow.


VHS students who competed in the UIL Film competition were recognized by the VISD school board at the trustees' meeting Monday evening. VHS had 6 entries in the competition, with 4 advancing to the semi-final round and 1 qualifying for the state finals.
The Traditional Animation entry "Vietnam" is the film that advanced to the state finals. Putting that film together were Garrett Munson, Rodrigo Olivas, Kenneth Cordero and Eziqiel Amador. Two other Traditional Animation entries "False Conscious" by Taw Doh Htoo and "Flames" by Aung Men made the semifinals, as did the Digital Animation entry "I Remember" by Taw Doh Htoo. Two Narrative entries, "Climb to the Top" and "The Stakeout", both by Malakhi Propes-Scott and Donivan Montano, advanced to the second round of competition, but did not make it to the semifinals.


Wednesday night's parents meeting for students who signed up to tryout for the 2025-26 VHS cheerleading squad has been cancelled due to the weather. The only parents meeting will now be held Wednesday, Feb. 26. Students who are trying out MUST have a parent attend that meeting. The meeting will start at 6 p.m., in the VHS cafeteria.


Due to the slick road conditions and with the extreme cold temperatures not expected to allow the road conditions to improve, Vernon ISD officials have announced school will be closed Wednesday. We hope everyone stays safe and warm tomorrow.
