Our Vernon Lions tennis team fell to Canyon Randall, 10-4, in the semifinals of the 4A Region 1 Team Tennis Tournament. This was the first time since 2021 that Vernon reached the 4A regional tourney. Congratulations to the Lions for their great fall season when they play up a classification.
Good Luck!! To our Roarin' Lion Band, as they will be competing in the UIL Region 7 Marching Contest Saturday in Wichita Falls. The competition will be held at Memorial Stadium. The Roarin' Lion Band is scheduled to take the field at 2:15 p.m. for their performance.
The Vernon Lions tennis team is down 2-5 after completion of the doubles matches in their semifinal match against Canyon Randall in the Class 4A Region 1 Team Tennis Tournament in Abilene. The first team to win 10 individual matches wins the team match and advances to the Region 1 championship. match.
Our Lady Lions are on the road this evening, as they travel to Jacksboro for a big District 6-3A battle with the Tigerettes. A Vernon victory would move the Lady Lions into a tie for third place in the district standings. The JV matches will begin at 5 p.m., with the varsity match scheduled for 6 p.m. Good luck Lady Lions!!

Two members of the United States Air Force, Christopher Walthall and Brandon Rimmer, visited Mrs. Walthall's pre-kindergarten class today and told the students about their jobs in the Air Force. They also showed the students a flight training exercise, and helped the students build paper airplanes. Christopher Walthall is Mrs. Walthall's husband. We thank him and all members of our Armed Forces for their service to our country.
Earning VHS Lady Lions Standouts honors for the first half of the second six weeks of school were Payzlee Brannon and Jocelyn Cordoba. Coach Sally Reeves cited the two Lady Lions for showing up, putting in the work, encouraging others, and improving every day, along with being standouts in the classroom. She said the coaches were proud of their effort, attitude, and leadership.

On Tuesday the Vernon Lions tennis team defeated Peaster, 14-0, to claim a Class 4A Regional Quarterfinal Team Tennis title and earn a trip to the Class 4A Region 1 Team Tennis Tournament being played Thursday and Friday in Abilene. The Lions will face Canyon Randall in their regional semifinal match in the morning at 9 a.m.
Just a quick reminder that all VISD campuses are operating on their early release schedules tomorrow, as the district begins it's Fall Break. We hope everyone has a great extended weekend. Classes will resume Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Our VES Student Council is selling "Spooky Grams" for Halloween. Students can purchase Spooky Grams for 50 cents before school and during breakfast from now until Wednesday, Oct. 28. Each Spooky Gram will include a Halloween treat and a special message from the sender. Members of the Student Council will deliver the Spooky Grams during homeroom on Thursday, Oct. 29. Spooky Grams would be great to send to friends, teachers or anyone. Parents may purchase a Spooky Gram in the school office and it will be delivered to their student at school.

The District 6-3A Cross Country Meet was held yesterday in Burkburnett and 2 Vernon runners finished in the top 20. In the Girls Division, Kynsleigh Hamm finished 16th with a time of 14-minutes, 49:12-seconds over the 3.2K course, and in the Boys Division Blake Haney finished 13th with a time of 19:31.94 over the 5K course. Also competing for the Lady Lions were Alina Guerrero, Ava Lagunas, Austyn Moore, Blakeleigh Stewart, and Emma Pena, and Jackson Thomas was the other Lions competing. Coach Murguia said she was proud of all the students and the effort they gave throughout the season. She said they showed up and gave everything they had.

Vernon ISD's Fall Break begins Thursday (Oct. 15), with campuses operating on their early release schedules, and continues thru Monday, Oct. 19. School resumes on its normal schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 20. All district offices and campuses will be closed during the Fall Break. We hope all of our students and their families, and district employees enjoy their long weekend!
Four Vernon High School FFA students competed in the Sweet Side of Fall Floral Design Contest held over the weekend in Decatur. This was their first contest and Kendra Garcia placed 3rd in the First Year Division. Congratulations to all of the students.
Our Lady Lions are hosting the Henrietta Lady Cats in a District 6-3A volleyball game this evening.
