Earning Vernon Lions Player of the Game honors for Week 1 are Bowie Eakin and Evan Wilkinson. Bowie recorded 18 total tackles, including 2 tackles for loss, from his linebacker position to earn Defensive Player of The Week honors. Evan had 1 reception for 26 yards from his receiver spot to earn the nod for Offensive Player of the Week. Congratulations Bowie and Evan!!

St. Paul Lutheran Church will be hosting ESL Classes in September. The classes will be held Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., starting on Sept. 16. This is an after school program located at both Vernon Elementary School and Vernon Middle School. Youngsters in the Texas ACE program can receive help with schoolwork and much, much more!! Recognized as Lady Lions of the Week for the Week of Aug. 17-21 were Lily Maxwell and Celestina Sanchez. Coach Sally Reeves stated these two girls have been outstanding leaders both in athletics and in the classroom. They consistently show up, work hard, and are willing to put in the extra reps and extra time to get better.

Our Lions are on the road again for Week 2 of the 2026 football season! We will be traveling to Wellington for a showdown with the Skyrockets!! Tickets must be purchased online. The first pep rally of the season was held this morning at D.O. Fulton Gym and we had some special visitors, as students from McCord elementary joined us to help build up that Lion Spirit as we get ready for tonight's football game in Mineral Wells. The theme was "Neon Day!"
It was "Decals With Dad" night at the fieldhouse Thursday, as dads and others joined varsity football players in the locker room to put decals on their helmets. The helmets are new and will feature a new main logo that incorporates the State of Texas with the traditional V with a Lion going through it. Other decals on the helmets include the American and State of Texas Flags, and the player's uniform number.
Our Lions kick off their season-opener tonight in Mineral Wells!!! The Lions will meet the Rams at 7 p.m., in Ram Stadium. Tickets must be purchased online at https://www.mwrams.net/HTtickets

Students in Mrs. Walthall's Pre-K class had a little fun anatomy lesson on Tuesday. Students received a paper cut out of a pair of lungs and a trachea that they colored. The lungs were then glued to two paper sacks and straws were inserted into the trachea. The students then had fun blowing into their "lungs" and watched as the sacks expanded just like lungs do.
At last night's Vernon ISD board meeting the Vernon State Hospital was recognized for hosting the VISD Administration team, which includes the superintendent, assistant superintendent, all principals, assistant principals, and department directors, for a Communications Training seminar last month. Representing VSH were Supt. Albert Ragland, James Turner, Ashley Scarbro, Charlsie Brown, and Carrie Hawkins. VISD Supt. Dr. Blaise Boswell thanked the Vernon State Hospital for always supporting the district and added the district appreciates the partnership we have with VSH.
