Monday evening Jeanne Ballard, from the Vernon College Financial Aid Department, met with with VHS seniors and their parents, and explained what the FAFSA is, and provided other important information about applying for financial aid to attend college. FAFSA stands for Free Application For Federal Student Aid. It helps seniors to complete this form prior to applying for any scholarships or grants.
Our Lady Lions host the Jacksboro Tigerettes in District 7-3A volleyball action today at D.O. Fulton Gym. It is also Senior Recognition Night, with our Lady Lion seniors and parents being honored in a ceremony prior to the varsity match. Sub-varsity matches begin at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity match set to begin at 6 p.m. The Senior Recognition Ceremony will begin at approximately 5:45 p.m. Good luck Lady Lions!!
Our Vernon Lions tennis team is in Plainview this morning for a Class 4A Region 1 Team Tennis Quarterfinal Playoff match against Canyon. The winner advances to the 4A Region 1 Tournament in Abilene later this week. Good Luck Lions!!!
Last Friday the Lions sent their 2025 Homecoming crowd home happy after knocking of Boyd, 44-14, in a District 4-3A, D1 game. Earning Player of the Week honors for the game were: Jamari Chance, Offensive MVP & Ball Hawk; Adrain Felton, Defensive MVP; Mu Soe, Special Teams MVP; Ty Scott, Most Explosive; Thomas Gonzales, Lion Heart; Manny Ochoa, Boss Hog; Bowie Eakin, Big Stick; and Jacob Brown, Top Blocker. The Lions are now 6-1 for the year and 2-1 in district play. Vernon is open this Friday night. The Lions' next game is Oct. 24, in Bowie.
Our Health Occupations Program is hosting an Our Blood Institute Blood Drive Tuesday -- tomorrow -- from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The blood drive will be in the PE Gym. Our Blood Institute provides blood to all of our area hospitals, including Wilbarger General, Electra and United Regional. VHS is the defending Our Blood Institute Blood Drive champion, and this is our first blood drive of the new school year. You can scan the QR code or call the number on the flyer to set up an appointment. Please take a moment to give a gift that costs you nothing, but can safe a life!!

This is National School Lunch Week and this morning VES treated the cafeteria staff with burritos from TJ's and a drink to thank them for all they do for our students. Congratulations to our Roarin' Lion Band!!! In preparation of their UIL Marching Contest on Oct. 18, the band competed in the Seymour Marching Competition on Saturday and marched away with a Division 1 (Superior) rating from all 5 judges!!! Band Director Jeremiah Hastings said he and Assistant Band Director Matt Golden are extremely proud of the students' accomplishment and look forward to continued improvement before the band goes to UIL competition this Saturday. The band will perform in the UIL Marching Contest at 1:45 p.m., Saturday, at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
Mariana Ortega was crowned the 2025 Homecoming Queen during a ceremony at halftime of tonight's homecoming game. Mariana was escorted by her father, Rogelio Ortega. Other members of the homecoming queen court included Breigh Halford, Brooklyn Harjo, Zayley Horn, Jeana Martinez, Olivia Carr, Soula Johnson, and Klancy Sherrill. Crown bearer was Sawyer Reeder, son of Jeremy and Sarah Reeder, and flower girl was Lillie Hawkins, daughter of Andy and Carrie Hawkins. The Lions won their homecoming game, defeating Boyd, 47-7.
During the Lions Spirit Pep Rally this afternoon Carlos Moreno was crowned Homecoming King. The king nominees and queen nominees were introduced during the pep rally before the king was crowned. Other king nominees were Jamari Chance, Ty Scott, Tru Gipson, Ben Armstrong, Kadyn Whiteside, Mason Ballard and Prentice Murray.

Today was the last day of Homecoming 2025 Lion Spirit Week and of course, the theme for today was Maroon & White. We saw many of our students decked out in their maroon and white as they walked the halls this morning.
You could definitely tell it was Homecoming in our halls this morning. It may have been the mums that gave it away. The 2025 Homecoming Game is tonight, with our Lions taking on District 4-3A, D1 foe Boyd.
It's Homecoming 2025 and tonight's Homecoming game features our Vernon Lions hosting the Boyd Yellowjackets in a District 7-3A clash. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. The coronation ceremony for the 2025 Homecoming Queen will take place at halftime. Single game, reserve seat tickets will be sold at the Vernon ISD Administration Building until Noon. General admission tickets must be purchased online at www.vernonisd.org No tickets will be sold at the gate.
