Tuesday morning VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward handed out popcorn to our VES teachers and staff in appreciation for their work this year. He also took the opportunity to quiz some students while visiting the classrooms.

Take a moment during the noon hour to stop by the VISD Administration Building and welcome the new leader of the Roarin' Lion Band, Jeremiah Hastings, to town. You can have some punch and a cookie during the come-and-go event.

There's still a few spots open for our Summer Lego Camp for students who are in the sixth thru eighth grade this year. This is a free camp. To sign up, contact Mrs. Perez in the Middle School front office.

The Baccalaureate service for the members of the VHS Class of 2024 will be held this Sunday, at the 1st Methodist Church.

Last week, Coach Nathan Stinson took his Honors Geography and Gifted & Talented students to the Fort Worth Zoo. The students had a chance to get up close and personal with much of the plant and animal life they've studied all year. It was a great experience for them to see much of what they've studied in class come to life.

Our 2nd and 3rd grade students have been working hard on their spring program. Be sure and head to the auditorium tonight and show your support. When they see friends and family in the audience it always makes them smile.

Last week, students in Mrs. Allison Stanley's chemistry lab calculated how many calories are in the food they eat by actually burning food. Students weighed, then lit the food on fire. The heat from the flame increased the temperature of water in the cans. This data was used to calculate the calories in a single Cheeto, Taki and Marshmallow!

The community is invited to a Meet and Greet for incoming head band director Jeremiah Hastings. Stop by the VISD Administration Building on Wednesday, grab some cookies and punch, and meet the new leader of the Vernon Roarin' Lion Band!
