
It was a rough night in Bowie for our Lions, as they saw their 7-game winning streak snapped and suffered their first District 7-3A loss of the season, falling to the Jackrabbits 49-47. The loss drops Vernon to 3-1. The Lions will stay on the road Tuesday, traveling to Holliday to take on the Eagles.

Our Lady Lions wrapped up the first round of District 7-3A action with a 55-39 victory over Bowie tonight. The Lady Lions are now 2-4 in district play and will stay on the road Tuesday when they travel to Holliday to take on the Lady Eagles.

For anyone who works in a public school, the Christmas Break is always a welcome time of the year. It is a time when we get to refresh our batteries. For some, it is a time to completely remove themselves from the job, but as a superintendent, I can never fully disengage. Whenever I have tried it, I always develop a sense of low-key anxiety thinking about the lost opportunity to get a little ahead of the job. Backpacks were on their backs and smiles were on their faces as McCord students were dropped off this morning for the first day back from our Christmas Break. Everyone is ready to get this Spring semester started! Here's a to a great one!!

Our Congressional Debate team hit the road to Austin this afternoon as they are competing in the State Meet Wednesday and Thursday. Members of the team are Jacob Brown, Logan Luster, Alexandrea Orton, Zachary Sanchez, Logan Wehrwein, and Madyson Zamora-Raines. Good luck and safe travels!!!


It was a great Christmas Break, but we're excited to start our Spring semester tomorrow! We're ready to have our students back on our campuses and to continue their educational journey.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Students in DAEP and Opportunity Center students will now have classes at the Central Elementary campus. Students will need to enter the building through the main doors on the Paradise Street side of the building.


It was a battle of District 7-3A heavyweights this afternoon at D.O. Fulton Gym, as the Lions hosted the No. 19-ranked City View Mustangs. The Lions rallied from a halftime deficit to pull out a 49-43 victory and remain undefeated in district play at 3-0. The Mustangs are now 1-1 in district action. Vernon is open Tuesday and will return to action next Friday in Bowie.

Vernon Lion senior Julius Dawkins was recognized for scoring 1,000 points in his varsity career this afternoon prior to the District 7-3A contest with City View. A big CONGRATULATIONS to Julius for reaching that 1,000 point plateau!!


The Lady Lions fell to City View, 60-56, in a District 7-3A game this afternoon at D.O. Fulton Gym. The Lady Lions trailed by 15 points early in the 4th quarter, but put on a furious rally that fell just short. The Lady Lions are now 1-4 in district action and are open Tuesday before closing out the first round of district play in Bowie on Jan. 12.

Our Lady Lions powerlifting team competed in their first meet yesterday, when they traveled to Wichita Falls to take part in the Wichita Falls High School Meet.







Our Lady Lions and Lions are back in action on the basketball court tomorrow as they host their District 7-3A counterparts from City View. Sub-varsity action begins at 11 a.m., at D.O. Fulton Gym. The Lady Lions will tangle with the Lady Mustangs at 12:30 p.m., and the Lions will battle with the Mustangs at 2 p.m. Come out and support our Lady Lions and Lions in District 7-3A action!



Our Vernon Lady Lions powerlifting team will head to Wichita Falls this afternoon to compete in their first meet of the season at Wichita Falls High School. First lift is schedule for 5 p.m. Good Luck!!!


GOOD LUCK!! To our VHS Cheerleaders as they compete in the UIL Spirit Competition today at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Tuesday night, the cheerleaders performed their competition routine for family, friends and fans at D.O. Fulton Gym. They are scheduled to perform in competition at 2:48 p.m. today.
