Yesterday, Mrs. McCurley pre-K students had a great time making their special pumpkin pie together for their Thanksgiving taste test. Students tried turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and of course their pumpkin pie and voted on the one they liked the best.

Our Lady Lions played their second game of the 2024-25 season Saturday afternoon and picked up their second victory of the year as they dropped the Breckenridge Lady Bucks, 70-30. Vernon is home again tomorrow, as the Lady Lions will cost Clarendon. JV action begins at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity game to start at approximately 6 p.m.
The Lady Lions hit the road for the first time season on Friday when they travel to Childress to take on the Lady Bobcats. Due to the Childress football team having a playoff game Friday night, the basketball game times have been moved up. The JV game will begin at 1 p.m., with the varsity game to follow at approximately 2:30 p.m.


Due to having an early release on both Thursday and Friday this week, VES has altered its Ice Cream Day schedule.
This week, Ice Cream Day for 2nd & 3rd grade will be Tuesday and the 4th & 5th grade's Ice Cream Day will be Wednesday.

The Lions snapped a six-year playoff victory drought Friday night with their 28-9 win over Sweetwater in a Class 3A, D1 Bi-District game. Receiving Lion Awards for their performances were: Co-Offensive MVP -- Tru Gipson, Ty Scott & J'Dyn Cooper; Co-Defensive MVP -- Tyce Payne, Adarius Williams & Landon Bynum; Ball Hawk -- Adarius Williams; Big Stick -- Landon Bynum; Co-Lion Heart -- Carter Kieschnick, J'Dyn Cooper & Adrain Felton; Special Teams MVP -- Mu Soe.

Last week, MVPs from the Lions' games against Iowa Park and Peaster received their game balls from Amanda Lehman and Tiffany Rosalez, who are with the local Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agency. MVPs for the Iowa Park game were Nick Guzman, defense; Donnie Montano, special teams; and Ty Scott and Tru Gipson, co-offensive MVPs.
MVPs from the Peaster game were Ethan Wilkinson, Offensive MVP, and Javi Lopez, Defensive MVP.


VHS students, especially seniors and their parents, have the opportunity to attend an informational meeting on how to fill out the FAFSA form, which is extremely important for students applying for scholarships and financial aid. The meeting is set for tonight at 5:30 p.m., in the VHS Cafeteria.

Due to the Lions advancing to the Area Round of the playoffs and the playoff game being scheduled for Thursday night, we have moved our VMS boys basketball games to Wednesday. The first game will begin at 4 p.m., Wednesday.

On Saturday, four Vernon Middle School Band students traveled to Seymour to try out for the ATTSB North Zone Region 7 All-Region Middle School Band, and after a rigorous audition process three students earned spots in the band! Olivia Hastings was named 4th chair in percussion; Braeden German was named 7th chair trombone; and Jace Northcutt was named 9th chair in percussion. The all-star band will perform on Saturday, Dec. 14. Band Director Jeremiah Hastings said he and assistant band director Matthew Golden were proud of all the students who audition and of the three who earned a chair in the all-star band.

Friday was a special night for Electra senior Brayden Turner. The Tigers played their bi-district game against Wheeler on the field named after his grandfather, Vernon Lions legendary head coach Leo Brittain. After the game, Brayden and his mother, Kristi Brittain, and other family members commerrated the night with photos on the field.


Here are scenes from the Lions' 28-9 bi-district victory over Sweetwater last night. The Lions had not advanced past the first round of the playoffs since 2018. Vernon will now face Amarillo River Road in the Class 3A, Division 1 Area Round of the playoffs. The game will be played Thursday night at Lowery Field in Lubbock. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Vernon will be the visiting team. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Passes will be accepted.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!
Due to the Lions playing their Class 3A Area Round Playoff Game on Thursday night, Vernon ISD will operate on an early release schedule on THURSDAY! The district will also operate on an early release schedule on Friday. The early release on Friday was on the original school calendar.

Our bi-district champion Lions will head to Lubbock next Thursday for their Class 3A, Division 1 Area Playoff Game. The Lions will be facing Amarillo River Road at Lowery Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Our VMS crew held an "Anything But A Cup" contest this week. Teachers and staff who participated turned in a photo of something other than a cup and/or them with their entry. Teachers then voted on their favorite. And the winner was......Mrs. Chilton and her calf/yearling nursing bottle!! Congratulations Mrs. Chilton!
