Members of the VES Student Council went shopping yesterday, selecting gifts for the stars they selected from the Vernon Jaycees' Star Tree, which helps ensure children in need in the community receive something on Christmas morning. The Student Council raised the funds for the shopping spree in November with their annual "Turkey Bowl." VES students donated $3,100 during the fundraiser and the Student Council used that money to purchase gifts for 15 stars from the Star Tree.

This fall Vernon ISD started a new program at Vernon Elementary involving fourth grade students. The district provided free swimming lessons to fourth graders who attended after-school tutorials. The goal was to provide students with the opportunity to learn the fun and life-saving skill of swimming, as well as help the students improve in the classroom.
