Due to the winter weather that is expected to hit the area Friday afternoon, Vernon ISD will be operating on our regular Early Release Schedule tomorrow. PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE WEATHER, THE VERNON BOYS & GIRLS CLUB WILL NOT BE OPEN TOMORROW.
We hope of our students, staff and their families stay safe and warm during the winter storm. We will make an announcement Sunday afternoon concerning school on Monday.

Vernon ISD is keeping a close eye on the forecast for the winter weather that is expected to hit our area on Friday.

Our area is currently being hit by the flu, along with viruses and other illnesses. Please review these steps to help keep your student healthy, as well as how to slow down spreading germs if they do become ill. Help our VISD staff keep our schools as healthy as possible and your student in the classroom.

Vernon ISD will be closed Monday, Jan. 19. Good luck to all of our students participating in the Wilbarger County Junior Livestock & Project Show!! School will resume and the Administration Building will resume regular office hours on Tuesday. We hope all of our students and staff enjoy their 3-day weekend!

January is School Board Recognition Month and our Vernon ISD trustees found gifts from the district and each campus waiting for them at their regular monthly business meeting held Monday evening. Vernon ISD would like to thank our trustees for caring about our district, and for wanting nothing but the best for our students, teachers and all of our staff. VISD trustees include Carrie Hawkins, Patrick Parmer, Chris Lehman, Emory Byars, Jarrod David, Bryson Henry, and Amanda Lehman, who left the meeting before the photo was taken to attend a school activity her daughter was participating in.

VISD is currently taking nominations for the Gifted & Talented Program. If parents would like more information on the GT Program, two meetings are scheduled for today: 1 p.m., at the VISD Administration Building Boardroom; and 6 p.m., in the Media Center at Vernon High School.

Everyone is getting back into the school routine this week as we head full steam into the Spring Semester, and with it being the middle of the flu season, Vernon ISD would like to remind parents and guardians of the documentation the district needs to receive when students are absent from school. Friday will be a day of celebration here at VES!! We will be handing out 3rd Six Weeks/Fall Semester Awards during ceremonies throughout the day. Parents, guardians and other family members are invited to attend and show their support for their student!

A big THANK YOU!! goes out to the United Samaritan Services of Vernon (USSV) for donating a large number of CDs to our VES Art Department for the student's Spring art project. Due to that donation, we have all the CDs we need for the project. We appreciate everyone who donated to our project.

This morning, the Vernon Police Department and Vernon ISD welcomed Autumn Thames to their staffs. Autumn will hold the rank of lieutenant with the Vernon PD and will serve as VISD's Director of School Safety and Security, as well as be the School Resource Officer at McCord Elementary. Interim Supt. Dr. Blaise Boswell explained this is a newly-established position and reflects VISD's and Vernon PD's collaborative commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors.


The nomination window for our Vernon ISD Gifted and Talented Program is now open. The deadline to nominate a student is Monday, Jan. 19. Parents, teachers and others in the community can nominate students. Our VES Spring Art Project involves using old CD and DVD discs. If you happen to have any you would like to donate to the project, please contact the VES Office or drop them by the school office. We just need the discs only.

When the dismissal bell rings today and our students leave our campuses, Vernon ISD will officially be on its Christmas Break. VISD staff will return and normal office hours will resume on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, while we will welcome our students back to the classroom on Wednesday, Jan. 7. We hope all of our VISD students and their families, along with all of our VISD family, has a wonderful Christmas Break.
