Due to Atmos Energy working on a project, only one lane on Wood Street will be open this afternoon. To try and alleviate traffic congestion, parents/guardians who pick their child up after school will be allowed to pick them up in the front of the Middle School and on the north side of the school.

Our VHS cheerleaders will be performing their State Competition routine for everyone tonight at D.O. Fulton Gym. The showcase will start at 7 p.m. Head out tonight and cheer on our wonderful cheerleaders who stay busy cheering for all of our athletes throughout the year!!
Also, a sendoff for the cheerleaders will be held at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, in front of VHS. Once they leave the sendoff, the cheerleaders will be escorted down Wilbarger by our Vernon Police and Fire Departments. The cheerleaders will compete Thursday at the State Competition.

Everyone is getting back into the school routine this week as we head full steam into the Spring Semester, and with it being the middle of the flu season, Vernon ISD would like to remind parents and guardians of the documentation the district needs to receive when students are absent from school. The VHS chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is partnering with the Wilbarger Humane Society to host an adoption drive on Saturday, Feb. 7, in the United Supermarket parking lot. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are many animals in need of a loving home that are ready to meet their furever family!!
Can't adopt right now? You can still help by offering supplies or monetary donations. Stop by and grab a wishlist of items they need or scan a QR code at the event to make a direct donation. Are you interested in volunteering at the shelter? The Wilbarger Humane Society is always in need of regular volunteers and information on volunteering will also be available at our adoption drive event.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to our VISD Business Manager Vanessa Voelkel who is now a Registered Texas School Business Administrator. The certification is from the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO). Vanessa completed a 15-course curriculum and passed an exam to earn the designation.

Two or three times during the months of January through April, Mrs. RaeAnn Stevens will be offering TSIA testing. Sophomores MUST pass the ELAR TSIA test to take dual credit English and U.S. History next year. VISD pays for a VISD student's first TSIA exam in both ELAR and Math if the test is taken on campus. Friday will be a day of celebration here at VES!! We will be handing out 3rd Six Weeks/Fall Semester Awards during ceremonies throughout the day. Parents, guardians and other family members are invited to attend and show their support for their student!
Here is the awards schedule: 2nd Grade -- 8:30 a.m.; 3rd Grade -- 10 a.m.; 4th Grade -- 12:35 p.m.; 5th Grade -- 2:05 p.m.

A big THANK YOU!! goes out to the United Samaritan Services of Vernon (USSV) for donating a large number of CDs to our VES Art Department for the student's Spring art project. Due to that donation, we have all the CDs we need for the project. We appreciate everyone who donated to our project.

VHS senior Zach Sanchez will be competing at the Class 3A Congressional Debate Meet today in Austin. This is his 3rd year to advance to the state meet. Logan Wehrein and A.J. Ragland were named alternates to state at the Region 1 meet and are also in Austin.
