Mrs. Price's 1st Grade class had a special guest Wednesday, as City of Vernon Animal Control Officer Hunter Price dropped by. He discussed how wild animals have to be treated differently than pets and went over some animal safety tips. We appreciate Officer Price taking time to visit with our students.

The District 7-3A Golf Tournament wrapped up Wednesday at the River Creek Golf Course in Burkburnett and for the third straight year VHS junior Claire Mayo will be advancing to the 3A Region 1 Golf Tournament. Mayo finished third in the Individual Medalist competition, just one stroke away from 2nd place. However, with both golfers who finished ahead of her qualifying for regionals with their teams, Claire moves on as well. She shot a 168 for the tournament. Katie Cavaness also competed as an individual for the Lady Lions.
For the Lions, Truett Schur was tied for second in the Individual Medalist competition after Day 1, but struggled on Day 2 and finished tied 9th with a total of 167. Teammate Kayson Sanders had a steady two days and finished tied for 8th with a total of 166. As a team, the Lions finished seventh out of 11 teams, as four schools entered two teams. Rounding out the Vernon team were Sebastian Sanders, Bentley Dobbs, and Kaleb Bucher. Albert Ragland also competed as an individual. Congrats Claire and great job by all of our VHS golfers!!!

Through our Bluebonnet curriculum, our kindergarten students have been studying weather. On Tuesday, they received a special visit from local storm chasers Eric Black and his daughter Sarah, a junior at VHS, of Black Label Storm Chase. Eric and Sarah shared stories from their storm-chasing adventures, while also teaching students about different types of weather, storm safety, and everyone's favorite -- tornadoes. We appreciate Eric and Sarah taking time to visit with our kindergarteners and providing such a fun and educational program.

Our Vernon ISD Community Resource Fair was held Saturday and it was a success, with residents stopping by to gather information on various services that are available to them. A BIG thank you to all the non-profit organizations and groups that set up a booth at the fair. Our vendors were the reason the fair was a success. While their parents were picking up information at our vendor booths, there was an art table and water balloons that kept the kids entertained.

Monday afternoon Michael White and Jarrod David with Texas Farm Bureau read a book to all of our First Grade students. This is Texas Farm Bureau Ag Literacy Week and the book that was read, which was about a little girl growing blueberries, was donated to us by Texas Farm Bureau. We love it when community businesses, organizations and residents volunteer to take part in school activities.
