Our Lions are on the road again for Week 2 of the 2026 football season! We will be traveling to Wellington for a showdown with the Skyrockets!! Tickets must be purchased online. Here is the link for the tickets https://www.wellingtonisd.net/page/store . However as of this morning tickets are not yet available to purchase.

McCord students enjoyed wearing their neon on Friday to support the Vernon Lions!! "Neon Day" was the theme of the high school pep rally and McCord students had a blast attending the first pep rally of the season.

DUDES ON DUTY IS BACK!

We are excited to continue Dudes on Duty across Vernon ISD! Our goal is simple: to provide a positive, welcoming presence for our students as they begin their school day.

Dudes on Duty was created with the men in our students’ lives in mind—giving dads, grandfathers, uncles, and other positive male role models an easy and meaningful way to be present on our campuses. However, our doors are always open to anyone who wants to support and encourage our students!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Complete the Dudes on Duty Google Form.
Choose the VISD campus and date you would like to volunteer.

Choose your morning.
The primary Dudes on Duty role is simple: stand at a campus entrance during morning arrival and greet students as they come to school. A smile, high five, fist bump, or encouraging word is a great way to start their day!

Want to do more?
You can indicate on the form if you are also interested in helping with lunch, recess, classroom activities, or other campus needs. A VISD employee will reach out to you regarding those opportunities.

Wait for confirmation.
Once you submit the form, your requested date will be sent to the appropriate campus for approval. Submitting the form does NOT automatically confirm your date. You will receive an email once your Dudes on Duty date has been approved by the campus.

The first pep rally of the season was held this morning at D.O. Fulton Gym and we had some special visitors, as students from McCord elementary joined us to help build up that Lion Spirit as we get ready for tonight's football game in Mineral Wells. The theme was "Neon Day!"

It was "Decals With Dad" night at the fieldhouse Thursday, as dads and others joined varsity football players in the locker room to put decals on their helmets. The helmets are new and will feature a new main logo that incorporates the State of Texas with the traditional V with a Lion going through it. Other decals on the helmets include the American and State of Texas Flags, and the player's uniform number.

Our Lions kick off their season-opener tonight in Mineral Wells!!! The Lions will meet the Rams at 7 p.m., in Ram Stadium. Tickets must be purchased online at https://www.mwrams.net/HTtickets
The first pep rally of the season will begin at 9:25 a.m., as our cheerleaders get the team and students fired up for tonight's contest. Please remember Mineral Wells enforces a "Clear Bag Policy" at Ram Stadium.

Join us for the 4th Annual LIONS ROAR HOMECOMING Tailgate on September 25, 2026!
We invite Vernon ISD school clubs, VISD-endorsed organizations, local businesses, churches, and community groups to participate. Only Vernon ISD entities may sell items, and Vernon ISD will not be providing prizes for booths.

Just like last year, we’ll set up in the horseshoe drive in front of Vernon Elementary School. Participants must supply their own materials and are responsible for cleanup. The event kicks off at 4:30 PM and closes at 6:30 PM for the 7:00 PM game kickoff.

Students in Mrs. Walthall's Pre-K class had a little fun anatomy lesson on Tuesday. Students received a paper cut out of a pair of lungs and a trachea that they colored. The lungs were then glued to two paper sacks and straws were inserted into the trachea. The students then had fun blowing into their "lungs" and watched as the sacks expanded just like lungs do.

At last night's Vernon ISD board meeting the Vernon State Hospital was recognized for hosting the VISD Administration team, which includes the superintendent, assistant superintendent, all principals, assistant principals, and department directors, for a Communications Training seminar last month. Representing VSH were Supt. Albert Ragland, James Turner, Ashley Scarbro, Charlsie Brown, and Carrie Hawkins. VISD Supt. Dr. Blaise Boswell thanked the Vernon State Hospital for always supporting the district and added the district appreciates the partnership we have with VSH.

Each quarter, Vernon ISD is going to begin recognizing a member of our community at a board of trustees meeting for their support of our VISD students, staff and programs. At last night's meeting our first honoree, Kevin Whiteside, was recognized for his continued support of all things maroon and white. VISD Supt. Dr. Blaise Boswell presented Kevin with a certificate and a Vernon logo lapel pin.

The Vernon Lions Athletic Booster Club sponsors Meet the Lions to help promote community support and build excitement and that Lion Pride!! Players from in our fall sports -- football, volleyball, tennis and cross country, along with cheerleaders and Roarin' Lion Band members -- were introduced to the crowd during the event.

There was plenty of food, snacks and activities for fans to enjoy Friday night before Meet The Lions started at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. The Vernon Lions Athletic Booster Club sponsors Meet The Lions, which celebrates our fall sports -- football, volleyball, tennis and cross country, along with cheerleading and band -- with individual player introductions. Despite the hot weather, there were plenty of Lion and Lady Lion fans in the stands showing their support for our students and athletes!!
