VISD students get a 3-day weekend this week, as there are no classes on Monday, Nov. 10, due to it being a Professional Development Day for teachers and staff.

This Friday is a scheduled Early Release Friday for Vernon ISD. We hope our students enjoy getting a head start on their weekend.

Wednesday afternoon KAUZ-TV was on hand at the Lions' practice and presented Ty Scott with their "Game Changer" award for this week. Ty received the honor for his work last week in Vernon's 28-14 victory over Iowa Park, as well as for the season, as he has over 1,700 yards of total offense heading into the regular-season finale this week. He has also thrown 6 TDs, while rushing for 7 additional scores. Congratulations Ty!!

D.O. Fulton Gym will be the site of two volleyball playoff matches later this week. This is the Regional Semifinal Round of the playoffs, and Thursday the Class 4A, D2 match will feature Canyon Randall taking on Krum. On Friday, Aledo will square off against Amarillo High in a Class 5A, D1 battle. Both matches will start at 5 p.m.. Someone at VES hit the big 5-0 yesterday, and his co-workers enjoyed having a little fun and celebrating the milestone birthday!! Happy 50th Mr. Aaron Burr!!

Last Friday senior members of the Lions football team, trainers, Roarin' Lion Band, Lionette Drill Team, and cross country team, along with their parents, were honored in a pre-game ceremony before the Vernon-Iowa Park game at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. Ms. Butler teaches our Digital Media & Graphics Design classes and is also the yearbook sponsor, while Ms. Hamer is teaching assistant and leads Academic Success classes. They both do an exceptional job in the classroom and help out whenever and wherever they are needed.

Our VES students had a lot of fun Friday night as they performed a dance routine with the Lionette Drill Team to the tune of "Monster Mash" during halftime of the Lions' game against Iowa Park. They did a great job!! A big thank you to Coach Traci Berend and Coach Jeff Davis for working with them to learn the routine during P.E.

Youngsters interested in wrestling will have the opportunity to learn more about the sport and compete through the Vernon Wrestling Club. The wrestling club is open to boys and girls from 5 year olds to 14. The club is hosting a sign-up meeting tomorrow, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m., at the VHS Fieldhouse. Those going to the meeting will need to bring their youngster's birth certificate.

On Saturday, the VMS tennis team played its final tournament of the Fall schedule and brought home some hardware!! Maebree McLennan captured first place in the Green Division Girls Singles, while Reid Coffee was the champion in Green Division Boys Singles. The doubles team of Kayson Villegas and Calvin Kemp took second in Green Division Boys Doubles. In the White Division, the duo of Ashlynn Torres and Camilla Gonzalez was third in Girls Doubles, and the team of Deavon Henslee and Jaidyn Chance was third in Boys Doubles. Congratulations to all!! Great job!
