During our Success Rally on Friday, we announced our McCord Six Weeks Superstars for the 2nd six weeks. Receiving Superstar honors were: Pre-Kindergarten -- Rozalie Leija; Kindergarten -- Luke Blevins; 1st Grade -- Ruth Lehman; Specials -- Xaven Hardeman. Great Job!!! Congratulations!!


The VMS Student Council is starting a food drive today that will continue until Dec. 8. The canned food that is collected will go to the Cupboard by Grace. The public is invited to donate to the food drive.


VISD campuses will be on their early release schedules Friday as we dismiss for our Thanksgiving break. Classes will resume on Monday, Nov. 27.


As part of their Student Success Rally on Friday, each grade had a classroom Pie Eating Relay Race. Students in each classroom sat at a table in a line, and each had a small pile of whipped cream in front of them. When the first student finished their plate, the second student started on their plate and so forth. The reward for the winning team was getting to put a pie in Mrs. Bloom's face. The winning teams were: Pre-K -- Ms. Schmoker's classroom; Kindergarten -- Ms. Penny's classroom; and 1st Grade -- Ms. White's classroom.











Ventriloquist Dennis Lee brought his "Nana Puddin'" show to students today. He visited McCord Elementary first before making his way to the Vernon Elementary School. The students gathered in the cafeteria for the assembly and had fun watching the show.

Last Friday, VHS students from the Opportunity Center and senior economic students received a tour of the Vernon College campus. The students were able to visit the classrooms and student dorms, and were able to talk with instructors of the different technical programs. Here are just a few pics from the tour.










Three VMS band members -- Kenzie Bennett, Flor Ortega and Gia Castillo -- auditioned for the Middle School All-District Band on Saturday at Hirschi High School in Wichita Falls. Kenzie and Flor are eighth graders, and Kenzie plays trumpet, while Flor plays tuba, and Gia is a seventh grader and plays clarinet.
Flor not only made the All-District band, she will be 1st chair tuba!!! The All-District Band performs Dec. 9, at Wichita Falls High School. Congrats to all for trying out and a big WELL DONE to Flor!! Great job!

A big CONGRATULATIONS!!! to our Vernon Lion Tennis Coach Carrie Castleberry for being named the Texas Tennis Coaches Association Class 3A Coach of the Year, as well as the Class 3A Region 1 Coach of the Year. Coach Castleberry will receive her awards at the TTCA convention in December. This is a very well deserved honor!!! Coach Castleberry, thank you for all you do for our VHS tennis program!!


It's Turkey Time at VES!! Well, Turkey Bowl Time that is. The Turkey Bowl competition begins tomorrow and will continue until Thursday, Nov. 16. During that time, each classroom will try to clothe a bald turkey poster with the most feathers. Feathers can be purchased during lunch periods for .25 cents each. The top classroom in each grade level will then compete in the Turkey Bowl with a chance to win a frozen turkey.
