Today was blueberry day for our McCord students. Our students are receiving a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to try during snack time as part of a Fresh Fruit Vegetable Program grant the school received. Students in Ms. Singleton's, Mrs. Kajs' and Ms. Fryman's 1st grade classes had some definite opinions -- both positive and negative -- about the blueberries. They talked about the fruit in all the classes, with Ms. Singleton's students writing a sentence in their journals explaining what the blueberries tasted like and felt like. Creed Feltman was recognized today for being the VHS Student Initiative Student of the Month for February. Creed is pursuing an Arts and Humanities endorsement and has taken many CTE classes while also maintaining good grades. He has been involved with One-Act Play and the theatre program since his freshman year. Creed worked behind the scenes his freshman and sophomore years and earned multiple awards for Best Technical Crew.
Last year he took to the stage and received an All-Star Cast Award for his role as Winston in "1984." This past fall, his comedic timing and character development turned Scotty into a character the audience loved and adored in the production of "Ripcord." This year, as a senior, Creed also joined the debate team and will compete in Lincoln Douglas Debate.
"Creed is known by all as a respectful young man," said Dr. Cynthia Jackson, VHS Principal. "He is a vital member to the theatre/speech program and has also maintained his position on the A/B honor roll."

February is Career & Technical Education (CTE) Month and today VHS hosted a lunch for owners and representatives of local businesses that participated in our Job Shadowing Day earlier this month. On that day, 41 seniors who take a CTE class "shadowed" someone who works in a career field they are interested in pursuing. CTE teachers, Elly Gonzales, Audrey Hastings, Candace Adams, and Brooke Meinzer, and those who attended the lunch discussed how well Job Shadowing Day went, as well as ideas on how to improve it. The Culinary Arts students provided the meal for the lunch.
