This week -- Feb. 3-Feb. 7 -- is National School Counseling Week. Vernon ISD is extremely lucky to have exceptional school counselors at all of our campuses. We want to take a moment to thank all of them and recognize the wonderful work they do with our students and teachers.

Two VHS wrestlers -- Izzy Espinoza & Kellan Byars -- qualified for the Class 5A Region 1 Wrestling Tournament being held this weekend in Lubbock, while two more -- Merrick Byars & Emily Rodriguez -- are alternates in their weight class. Unfortunately, Kellan will not be able to compete, as she suffered a broken ankle in a wrestling match last weekend at the district tournament.

BLOOD DRIVE TODAY!!
We're sharing the news because Our Blood Institute's blood supply is dangerously low. The City of Vernon Blood Drive is underway and will continue until 2:30 p.m. The bloodmobile is parked at the corner of Wilbarger and Cumberland. Our Blood Institute supplies all of the hospitals in the surrounding area, including Wilbarger General. A unit of donated blood can save 3 lives. Stop by tomorrow and give a gift that costs nothing, but can save a life!

Last week our CX Debate team competed in the district meet in Holliday and claimed second place. Members of the team were Carter Kieschnick, Adrian King, Ethan Evans and Carson Lopez. Two students, Edgar Morales and Hser Moo attended the meet as spectators to help them prepare for the competition next year.

We're already preparing for the 2025-26 school year, and tryouts for our VMS cheerleaders for next year will be held Friday, March 7. Two parents meetings are scheduled -- Feb. 11 & Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. -- a parent must attend one of those meetings if their child is trying out for cheerleader. Cheer clinics will also be offered March 3, 4 & 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and March 7 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information, contact Robyn Hamm at 940-553-4309, ext. 5305 or robyn.hamm@visdtx.org
