
Our Lady Lions will travel to Wichita Falls today for a District 7-3A showdown with the City View Lady Mustangs. Vernon is 6-1 in district play, while City View is 7-0. The sub-varsity game will begin at 4:30 p.m., at the Jr. High Gym, with the Lady Lions taking the court at the high school gym at approximately 6 p.m. Good Luck Lady Lions!!!

Vernon ISD will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. However, many of our students will be busy showing animals at the Wilbarger County 4-H Livestock Show being held at the Wilbarger County Exhibit Building. Good luck to all of our 4-H and FFA students.


Our Red River Class Wrestling Tournament will be held this weekend at D.O. Fulton Gym. The tournament begins Friday at noon, and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Head out to the gym and support our Lion and Lady Lion wrestlers as they compete in their home tournament!


Vernon ISD would like to share this information from Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star Wichita County. The organization is trying to expand and currently has a program at Vernon Middle School.


Our Lady Lions took 2nd place as a team Wednesday in their first powerlifting meet of the season held at Fort Worth Diamond-Hill Jarvis High School. Class winners included: Zayley Horn, 105 class; Jeanna Martinez, 132 class; Danielle Eneanya, 181 class; Olivia Hall, 220 class; and Kamryn Hall, 242+ class. Claiming second place honors were Aaliyah Moralez, 114 class, and Adamaris Robles, 198 class. Finishing third were Klancy Sherrill, 123 class, and Avery Conley, 242 class. Also competing in the meet were Erianna Chavez, Zayleigh Sweet and Yuleyka Ramirez.


It's never too early for high school students to start thinking and planning for their future education, and Wednesday VHS senior class counselor RaeAnn Stevens spoke to freshmen and sophomore students in Ms. Dalene Hamer's classes about what they needed to be doing now to help them get ready for college.



Students in Kia Dixon's Math Models class are currently studying a unit on insurance and to help them understand it better, Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agent Amanda Lehman visited the class Tuesday. Amanda spoke to the students about the different types of insurances, along with what each type of insurance covers and why they're important. She also explained to the students how insurance rates and premiums work.





A sendoff was held this morning in front of VHS for the cheerleaders who are leaving today for their state competition. Students came out to cheer them on, while the Roarin' Lion Band played the "Fight Song" and the Lionette Drill Team did a pom-pom routine. Several members of the football team also led a cheer and did a few stunts. The cheerleaders will be escorted down Wilbarger about 2:10 this afternoon as the leave town. Line Wilbarger and cheer them on!! The cheerleaders perform Thursday morning.










Jarrod David, who won a Special Election runoff for Place 3 on the VISD School Board, was sworn in during Monday's board meeting. January is also School Board Appreciation Month and trustees received several gifts from the district and campuses. We appreciate all of our trustees' dedication to help make the district the best it can be, and their commitment to helping the district ensure each student receives a quality education.
Current VISD School Board Trustees are Chris Lehman, Emory Byars, Patrick Parmer, Carrie Hawkins, Amanda Lehman, Jarrod David and Bryson Henry.



The VHS Culinary Arts students prepared the meal for Monday's VISD School Board meeting. Trustees enjoyed lasagna, salad, garlic bread, and mini cheesecakes. During the meeting, the students and teacher Mrs. Audrey Hastings were recognized and received certificates and a district coin. Serving the meal were Keinin Gardner, Jaycelynn Felman, Alyssa Garcia, Elizabeth Lagunas, Olivia Najera, Mylee Greening, Nathanel Sanchez and Rhyan Lee. Others who helped prepare the meal included Haydn Weddle, Eh Kpaw, Gabriel Romero, Isabella Mejia, Israel Espinoza, Kylee Lane, Marcus Gonzales, Melanie Serrato, and Taw Doh Htoo.






VISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward presented Vernon High School freshman Reagan Baskerville with a certificate and a district coin Monday evening, as she was recognized during the January school board meeting. Reagan was recognized for her performance of "Taps" at the VHS Veterans' Day Assembly in November. Reagan is a member of the Roarin' Lion Band.


Our VHS Cheerleaders will be leaving tomorrow for their state competition. There will be a sendoff in front of VHS at 10:30 a.m., with students, Roarin' Lion Band and Lionette Drill Team cheering them on. They will leave town at 2 p.m. Please join us in lining Wilbarger and show your support as they leave town. They will compete at the state competition Thursday morning.


Our Lions will hit the court tonight for a District 7-3A contest with the Jacksboro Tigers. Boys' action begins at 4:30 p.m., with the JV game in D.O. Fulton Gym. The freshmen team will play at approximately 6 p.m., in the PE Gym, with the Lions taking the court back at Fulton Gym at approximately 7:15 p.m. Good Luck Lions!!!


Our Lady Lions are currently in second place in District 7-3A and they begin the second round of district action at home tonight against the Jacksboro Tigerettes. The sub-varsity game will start at 4:30 p.m. in the PE Gym, with the varsity game to follow at approximately 6 p.m., in D.O. Fulton Gym. The Lady Lions are playing some good ball right now!! Come on out and cheer them on!! Good Luck Lady Lions!!!


As we start the first full week of our 2025 Spring Semester, here are a few reminders from our VISD District Nurse Jennifer Walker, RN, on our health protocols.


Our VHS cheerleaders are competing at their state competition this Thursday and they will be performing their state routine for the public tonight at D.O. Fulton Gym. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Our cheerleaders do a great job supporting our athletic teams, and now it's time to support them.!! Head on out to the gym tonight and cheer them on as they prepare for their state competition.

Monday starts the 2nd week of our Vernon ISD Attendance Incentive for the 4th Six Weeks. Each week a student has perfect attendance they receive a ticket to put in a drawing for a MEGA QUEST 3 virtual reality headset. There will be a drawing for EACH GRADE!!
If a student has perfect attendance for the entire grading period, they will have 7 tickets for the drawing. If a student misses a day one week, they're not eliminated from the competition, they just won't earn a ticket for that week. They will start with a clean slate the next week.


We will have our Awards Assembly for the 3rd Six Weeks tomorrow. Parents and family members are invited to attend.
