A pig, a chicken, a cow and a dog. No, we're not talking about the song "Old McDonald." This morning Brett White took his AP World History students on a field trip to visit all of these four animals in their habitat. The students were tasked with deciding which animal is the oldest in mankind and the one most closely related to the dinosaur, T-Rex. Most were surprised to learn the chicken shares 60% DNA with the T-Rex, while the pig is the oldest of the four animals.

The first few days of every new school year can be hectic -- especially at the high school level. Our two counselors divide the grades between them to better serve our students. This year, Carol Taylor is the counselor for the freshman and sophomore class, while Sandra Kieschnick is the counselor for the junior and senior class. If you have any questions or concerns about your student, please reach out to the appropriate counselor.

Today is the last day for Lions fans who had reserve seat season tickets to reclaim their seats for the 2025 season!! Starting Monday, all unclaimed reserve seat season tickets will be available to the general public on a first come, first serve basis.
Grab reserve seats and have peace of mind knowing you're going to have a great view of the field from your seat near midfield!! Stop by the VISD Administration Building between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday to purchase your tickets.

Our Lions get their first taste of live action against an opponent tonight as they travel to Abilene to scrimmage Lamesa. The JV scrimmage begins at 5 p.m., with the varsity set for 6:30 p.m. Scrimmages will be held at the Shotwell Annex.
NOTE -- there has been a change to the 2025 football schedule. The Friday, Sept. 19 game in Prosper against Richland High School has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 18. Game time will remain 7 p.m.

We hope everyone has had a great 2 days of school. As we get back into the swing of things, please notice the two quick reminders below. Our start time is 7:45 a.m., so students arriving after 7:50 a.m. will be marked as tardy. If your child takes advantage of the free breakfast the district offers all students, please have them here a little earlier than our start time.
ALSO, our Pre-K students do not eat breakfast right when they arrive. Instead, our Pre-K classes enjoy breakfast together a bit later. This helps create a calm, relaxed atmosphere where we can give them extra help and attention.
Thank you for your help in keeping us on track and getting our days started off in the right direction.

Vernon ISD is kicking off year two of our Dudes on Duty volunteer program — and we need your help to spread the word!
We’re looking for dads, husbands, grandfathers, uncles, church friends, and other positive male role models to spend time with our students during morning drop-off and lunch/recess. Just showing up, engaging with students, and offering a friendly presence can make a huge difference in creating a safe and welcoming environment.
All campuses are participating — and whether or not they have kids in our district, all men are welcome — however, they must be an APPROVED VOLUNTEER!

VHS sophomores, juniors and seniors, if you have your ID badge from last year, please make sure you wear it tomorrow when we begin the 2025-26 school year. After we see who still has their badge, we will make a list of those students who need a new badge. Freshmen, we will issue ID badges later.
